Surgical abortion is one of the effective methods to end the childbirth up to 12 to 20 weeks of pregnancy. Our department provides the right assistance and counselling to clarify all the queries of the patients. Here is some preventive measure we take before proceeding with the procedure:
  • Confirm the pregnancy and its stage.
  • Ask the medical past history of a patient, if any.
  • Discuss their personal or family relations.
  • Examine the health conditions by proper tests or investigations.
  • Suggest the suitable procedure according to the test reports.
More than 30 years of experienced Dr Rekha Khandelwal is always available to provide an appropriate termination procedure. There are two types of surgical abortion procedure in India. Here’s a brief about how we perform it safely and medically.
  1. Vacuum Aspiration: Firstly, doctors will give a medicine to reduce the pain. A medical speculum is used to widen the vagina. An anaesthetic is injected to numb the cervix. After the cervix opens enough, a suction tube is inserted into the uterus to remove the tissues of pregnancy. This is just a 15 minutes method performed up to 6 to 16 weeks of gestation. You need to stay for 1 to 2 hours after the procedure to get recovered from anaesthesia.
  2. Dilation and Evacuation (D&E): Doctor starts from inserting a synthetic dilator into your vagina, is done before 24 hours to the process. At the time of treatment, we make sure to numb the cervix with medication. A cannula is used to empty the contents in the embryo. With the help of curette, the remaining tissues are removed. It takes just 15 to 20 minutes, suggested after 16 weeks of gestation.
